Topic: Understanding Solar Panels, EV Chargers & Battery Storage
This presentation covers key areas of the International Building Code, International Residential Code, National Electrical Code, and the Fire Codes that apply to EV Chargers & Battery Storage. Structural review and existing electrical system verification, recommendations on rough and final electrical inspections, and examples of common code violations will be discussed.

Robert Hattier is a Business Representative for IBEW Local 134 and the Executive Director and Master Trainer for the Illinois IBEW Renewable Energy Fund. During his 20 years in the solar industry, Bob has been involved with numerous renewable energy projects ranging from off grid cabins to residential, commercial and utility scale interactive systems. Bob has been teaching courses on Solar, Energy Storage, Electric Vehicle Charging and Green Building since 2008 and has offered courses throughout the Midwest region. Bob, a City of Chicago Supervising Electrician, holds many industry specific credentials including NABCEP’s PV Installation Professional, PV Technical Sales Professional and PV System Inspector certifications. Additionally, he is the only IREC Certified PV Master Trainer in the Midwest. Bob’s dedication to advancing the renewable energy industry can be seen in his involvement on several Board of Directors (NABCEP, MREA), committees (Solar Ready vets, National Clean Energy Workforce Alliance, Climate Jobs Illinois), education development projects (Electrical Training Alliance PV, EVITP, ESAMTAC), and allied professional training (IREC PV Inspection, Firefighter Safety and PV, Solar Plan Review and Inspection).
