Topic: 2021 IBC Fire and Life Safety Principle
This seminar addresses the critical concepts of the 2018 IBC regarding fire and life safety issues. These concepts provide a basis for the correct use of the code in building planning, classification of buildings and occupancies, fire-resistance-rated construction, fire protection systems and means of egress. The content addresses issues that are necessary for many designs and plan review decisions. During this training, participants will be listening to lecture and viewing examples, as well as discussing sections of the IBC that pertain to fire and life safety principles in building. They will participate in activities that involve a set of discussion, quizzes, questions and answers individually and in groups.

Scott Adams serves as the Fire Protection Engineer for the International Code Council (ICC), actively contributing within their Codes and Standards Development department. With an impressive tenure of over 35 years in fire and life safety consulting, Scott's expertise spans both municipal government roles and private practice. Holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland, Scott has played influential roles, both serving and chairing numerous code development and technical committees. Licensed as a Fire Protection Engineer in California, Nevada, and Utah, Scott is also a Professional Member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE). His certifications include the ICC Fire Code Inspector II and Building Plans Examiner. Scott's accomplishments extend to chairing the Fire Marshals Work Group for the 2002 Winter Olympics. He's played a pivotal role in reviewing and analyzing alternative means and methods from design professionals, ensuring compliance with pertinent building and fire codes. Often representing jurisdictions at design review and pre-entitlement meetings, Scott is lauded for providing effective solutions to the design team's proposals. Beyond his technical expertise, Scott is a venerated instructor, offering technical training across the US and internationally to various audiences, including fire and building officials, design professionals, and contractors.
